Minutes of NOVEMBER 19, 2009
Dave Ruotolo called the meeting to order at 6:40 PM at Reno’s Restaurant, Orange, Connecticut
Roll Call:

Secretary’s Report – Motion to accept by Paul Gusmano, seconded by Bob Biafore, all in favor.
Treasurer’s Report - Motion to accept by Shawn Murray, seconded by Steve LaForte, all in favor.
New Business:
The Post Season, All Star and Seabreeze Tournaments were critiqued. There were all very successful.
Dave reminded all presidents that background checks were mandatory for all personnel.
Dave advised all leagues that chartering would be available online next year.
Dave told all softball leagues there would be a meeting after January 1 to discuss interleague play.
Dave told all present that he is aware of the problem with having at least one umpire on the field who is 18 years old. It is hoped that a game director will suffice.
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.

Dave advised all leagues have submitted their Tournament Application Forms.
Dave asked all leagues what divisions they would be entering for Seabreeze.
The umpire meeting this year will be Sunday, June 28 at 5:00 PM in West Haven.
There will be a five-team coach pitch softball tournament this year.
The affidavit signing dates were announced.
Mike Krause announced Branford would be having a Fall Ball Program if any league was interested..

Dave turned the meeting over to Denis Haley to act as election chairman for the election of the district administrator. Mark Leone from East Haven Little League nominated Dave Ruotolo and was seconded by Mike Krause. No other nominations were made so Denis Haley as Secretary cast one vote for Dave Ruotolo. Dave thanked all leagues for their vote.
Dave distributed the tournament application forms to all leagues present.
Dave discussed the district has joined the umpire assigning program, The Arbiter.
Dave asked all leagues what post season tournament they were entering.

Dave announced that all the 11-12 baseball all star games would be played in Orange this year. He also announced that each league would get at least one all star game.
Paul Clark asked for clarification on the slide or evade rule. Denis and Tony explained the rule and the intent.
Dave announced the next meeting would be Thursday, June 18, 2009.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.

Dave suggested that we contact Positive Coaching Alliance in the fall for an early clinic.
Dave also suggested that we should offer a district coaching clinic and first aid clinic.
Pop Smith won the Bristol Summer Camp week.

All Star and Post Season Assessment was discussed and the fee
will be $550.00 per team.
New Business:
Dave said we received a thank you note from the Appel Family.
Dave told all league that the money from the ASAP assessment
will again be used for a scholarship to summer camp in Bristol.
There will be a drawing at the March meeting for all safety
officers.
Bruce McCarty from Little Caesar’s Pizza distributed information
on the fund raiser and served samples of pizza.
The district will be sponsoring a Positive Coaching Alliance
Clinic at the Sportsplex in North Branford. There will also be a
coach’s clinic to follow.
There will be a softball meeting on Monday, February 23, at the
High Plains Community Center in Orange at 7:00PM.
Dave reminded all league of the importance of the Safety Officer
meeting.
Denis reminded all leagues about getting him umpire names and
their abilities for games.
Motion to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM. The next
regular meeting will be Thursday, March 19 at the High Plains
Community Center.

Elliot Schwebel and Luis Lerma from Sports Supply Group made a short presentation regarding equipment.
Aaron Colman from Positive Coaching Alliance made a presentation to the members.
It was decided that Dave would contact Positive Coaching Alliance for a district program.
Umpire Fees for All Stars, Post Season and Seabreeze Tournaments – A motion was made by Shawn Murray and seconded by Mike Krause to increase the fee to $40.00 per umpire per game.
All leagues were in favor.
A discussion was held regarding the fees for tournaments this year. Dave told the leagues he would get back to them on the added expenses of umpire fees and the increase in baseballs.
Dave informed leagues that we would again be hosing the Seabreeze Tournament. This is the 7th year for Seabreeze.
ASAP – Dave asked all leagues to get him the facility survey and the officers listing.
Dave also told the leagues we would be having a president and safety officer meeting in February.
A discussion on how leagues ran their concession stands and paid their workers or relied on volunteers.
There was a discussion on parent complaints and how to handle them.
Dave reminded all leagues to make sure their constitution said what they want it to say.
There was some discussion on parents being allowed to vote. Dave said he would get clarification from Little League.
